[Perseverance.]♕By: Michael Green
"It's not that I'm so smart, it's just that I stay with problems longer."
- Albert Einstein.
We learned about being able to persevere in class and how it's one of the major cornerstones of being successful in class a few days ago when Ms. Amezcua put our perseverance to the test. We each begun with our arms held straight horizontally at shoulder length, we then attempted to keep our arms out and up for as long as possible as Ms. Amezcua played Metallica from her custom RTD-2 cell phone in the background, however, slowly but surely our arms fell.
The more determined people ventured and tried to sustain themselves for as long as possible trying to prove to themselves that they could "hold their arms up for the longest amount of time". I stayed in the competition for a commendable amount of time however, I realized early on that this really didn't prove anything to me about "perseverance" not because it was a bad activity but because it wasn't an applicable perseverance scenario to me because short-term goals are relatively facile, however I do need to discipline myself in long term goals. Although I didn't directly obtain something from this activity discussing perseverance only proffered the fact that I need to maintain working hard and not giving up on my goals.
