The Final Salute

In the article "Final Salute" by Jim Sheeler that main idea is how three different people experienced the death of a marine. These three people were his wife, friend Gavin Conley, and Major Steve Beck. "He wasn't suppost to come home this way" (Sheeler, 1). Major Steve Beck was the one who told the marine's wife that her husband was dead. Gavin Conley, who was also a marine, lived with a saying "Never leave a marine behind" (2). This article has to do with the loss with a loved one. "You can almost see the blood run out of their bodies and their hearts hit the floor. It's not the blood as much as their soul. Something sinks. I've only seen that when someone dies. And I've seen a lot of death" (3).
