Final Salute

In the article, “Final Salute” by Jim Sheeler, it demonstrates main idea that at times, the things we don’t expect end up having the biggest impact on our lives. This is show through the quote that reads, “When he first donned the Marine uniform, Beck had never heard the term ‘casualty assistance calls officer.’ He certainly never expected to serve as one. As it turned out, it would become the most important mission of his life” (Sheeler 4). Major Steve Beck was trained and more then qualified to be able to go out and fight for his country but instead was assigned to knock on families doors, start and guide the journey after a love ones death. This quotation best exemplifies the main idea showing that it never crossed his mind to be in the line of work he is now but in the end he fulfilled his most important task.
