The Final Salute

In the article, 'Final Salute' by Jim Sheeler he takes us on an emotional ride showing us the journey that Katherine Cathey had to take after finding out that her husband Second Lt. Cathey had died during the war. He starts off with focusing on Katherine Cathey showing her emotions and her atmosphere as she awaits for Lt. Cathey to return home. When his body arrives back home Katherine has a moment of weakness before going out on the tarmac she sadly says, "He wasn't supposed to come home this way." (Sheeler 1). Sheeler also takes into his article the point of view from Maj. Steve Beck, he tells us what hardship that the Major goes through. He includes Maj. Becks background story and how he got the job of being the one to deliver bad news to military families. And the last person that he decides to include in his article is Jim Cathey's best friend, Sgt. Gavin Conley. After reading this article you can easily tell what military families have to go through, and how it effects everyone in some way. But mostly you learn that out on the battlefield no matter what happens, no marine is left behind, meaning all our heroes come home.
