"The Final Salute"

"The Final Salute" was an article that talked about how Lt. Cathey's death affected the people around him. His death rocked the lives of his family "' I wish it was daytime for the rest of my life. The night is just too hard" (Sheeler 2). This quote is an example of how Lt. Cathey's wife felt about the night his casket was flown into an airport.

"The Final Salute" also touches on how Steve Beck has to inform the families of the fallen Marines. "Each door is different. But once they're open, Beck said, some of the scenes inside are inevitably the same" (Sheeler 4). This quote shows how the families seem to react the same way because they lost someone important in their life. I believe that the Final Salute truly shows how Lt. Cathey's death affected people and how the death of other Marines overall affect everyone.
